Vietnam will not be lifting the ban on casino gambling for locals

The government of Vietnam will not be reversing a ban on casino gambling for its citizens as many have hoped that it would. The current laws in Vietnam only permit foreigners and Vietnamese individuals with foreign passports to gamble at the country’s casinos. Vietnamese individuals who do not have a foreign passport are not allowed to gamble at any of Vietnam’s casinos. This results in many local Vietnamese people crossing the border to Macau, Hong Kong, or Cambodia to gamble. The Vietnamese government have argued that the ban is there to protect the country from an increase in organized crime, gambling addictions, money laundering and other illicit activities.
