A frustrated Chinese gambling addict sets off explosives in Shanghai airport

Having lost all of his life savings to a gambling addiction, Zhou Xingbai, 29, from Tongren city in southwest China’s Guizhou province borrowed money from his friends before losing that too. Reaching the end of his rope and not knowing what else to do, Xingbai decided to vent his anger and frustration by carrying out an attack inside the Shanghai airport. After filling a beer bottle with firecrackers and gunpowder, he made his way to the Shanghai airport. Once inside, he lit the crackers and threw the bottle into the crowd in Terminal 2. Four people were injured by shards of beer bottle glass. Xingbai then tried to commit suicide by slashing his own throat with a knife. However, Xingbai did not die, but was taken to a local hospital and placed under intensive care in critical condition.
