Atlantic City workers vote to strike

Six thousand Atlantic City workers including cocktail servers, bellhops, cooks and housekeepers from Caesars, Harrah’s Resort, Bally’s, Tropicana and Trump Taj Mahal could go on strike on the 4th of July if union representatives are not able to reach agreement with the casino owners. The union is arguing that workers were willing to make painful sacrifices when times were tough, but now that the casinos are earning more money, they need to take better care of the workers.

“They need to offer these workers a fair contract. We gave up a lot when times were bad, now that they are making money, they need to give back to us.” said Local 54 of Unite-HERE President Bob McDevitt in a statement after the vote.
