Japan is one step closer to legalizing casino gambling
On Tuesday the 13th of December, the upper house committee approved the IR Promotion bill, a bill that will pave the way for the legalization of casino gambling in Japan. Once the IR Promotion bill passes the final vote in parliament on Wednesday, the IR Implementation bill will also need to be passed before any casino resorts are built in Japan. The legalization of casino gambling in Japan will turn Japan into one of the biggest Asian gambling hubs, with the potential of generating up to $40 billion per year. The news of Tuesday’s IR Promotion bill approval sent gaming shares soaring. Currently, gambling is illegal in Japan with the exception of wagering on bicycle, boat and horse racing.
