Las Vegas, Nevada – The Riviera Hotel and Casino is imploded
Fifty-five years after opening its doors, the Riviera Hotel and Casino was imploded at 2.30 a.m. on Tuesday the 14th of June 2016. The 24-story Monaco Tower implosion was preceded with a fireworks show to say goodbye to the Las Vegas icon that had drawn headliners such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand and Liberace. The casino was also famous for its mob connections, and was featured in a number of movies including Casino and the original Ocean’s 11. The Monte Carlo Tower is scheduled to be imploded in August. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority purchased the property last year, and plans on using it to for a $2.3 billion expansion to the city’s convention center.
