No more court-side William Hill gambling ads at the Australian Open

In October 2015, bookmaker William Hill became the first betting partner of the Australian Open. William Hill had apparently paid a cool $5 million to sponsor the Australian Open. During the 2016 Australian Open, the sport of Tennis became embroiled in a number of damaging match-fixing allegations. Although William Hill was not implicated in any of the match-fixing allegations, Australia Open officials were criticized for promoting the bookmaker during that damaging period. On the up-side, while William Hill will not have any court-side presence during the 2017 Australia Open, William Hill remains an official sponsor of the Australia Open. “Ultimately I want to see an end to all gambling sponsorship at sporting events because so many children are exposed to it.” said Australian Senator Nick Xenophon
